R2 - Totnes 63 v 42 Bideford A
S/F - Holsworthy A 51 v 62 Totnes
Final - Totnes 55 v 56 Barnstaple

Totnes ladies made the short journey to Torquay to attempt the win the county championship. In the first round captain Wendy Northway led from the front with a 3 spare 64 against Exeter St Thomas. After a slow start with an end of 53, a 70 pin 2nd end put them in control. Final 2 ends of 75 and 76 gave them a total of 418, their best of the day and a 58 pin win. A local derby against Torquay 'B' was next. This was a lower scoring, and much closer game, but Sam Hodge (58) and Cherry Paul (52) picked up vital spares and Totnes took an 8 pin victory. Holsworthy 'B' were the semi final opponents. Once again spares from Sam with 2 in her top score of 57 backed up by Val McGall who hit a crucial 16 spare on the final end in her 53 got Totnes over the line by 10. Barnstaple, last year's winning finalists, again provided the competition in the final.

After falling behind by 16 after 2 ends and then by 22 after 4 things did not look good - but the fightback began! A poor end of 58 from Barnstaple and reply of 72 from Totnes, with spares from Sam and anchor woman Sonia Edwards, reduced the gap to just 4 going into the 6th and final end. Totnes then hit their best leg of the day, a 79, with 15 apiece from Sam and Emily Stolworthy, followed by a 14 from Val the target proved to be too much for Barnstaple who could only manage 62 in reply giving Totnes the title by 13.

Totnes Ladies Singles champion, Wendy Northway, was the singles representative. She skittled well throughout and reached the final where she met the Barnstaple champion. After a positive start and a 13 spare in the 4th end Wendy held a 7 pin lead going into the final end and set her opponent 17 to win after hitting a 9. 17 was exactly what she hit so Barnstaple took the singles title by 1!

Well done ladies, once again Totnes bring home the silverware!

Match Reports Finals Day 26th April 2025

The 2024/25 season closed at the Rugby Club with all the cup competition finals. It was great to see the leagues portable alleys come out of hibernation after a 5 year gap, thanks to all those who helped with this.

It was a successful day for Fords who completed the 'treble' adding the KO and Dart Cups to their league title plus the men's pairs. The KO cup didn't look like it was heading their way as Woodpeckers led until a Phil Nicholson 22 backed up by Richard Murch's 15 in a 68 pin 8th end turned the game around and enabled a 13 pin win. Woodpecker Dave Saunders 95 was the men's top score of the day. Once again it was the 8th end when Fords took the lead in the Dart Cup final aided by Wizzards 2nd consecutive leg of 41. A 60 pin finish with spares from Phil Nicholson and Steve Wakeham was enough to take a 9 pin win. After a narrow win over Millers in the pairs semi, Fords Paul Trant and Richard Murch played out a high quality final against reigning champions Chris Worth and Adam Stolworthy who had completed a 6 pin win over Panthers. The 4 players hit 14 spares with 91 (Chris), 81 (Adam) and 93 (Paul), 84 (Richard). Fords ended as winners by 5. Adam came out on the winning side in the mixed pairs, playing with sister, Emily, whose 15 spare in the 8th end was crucial, they beat mother and son duo Andrea and Richard Murch by 8.

Val McGall's 87 was the standout score in the ladies pairs semis as with her partner Angela Worth Odd Westons defeated Diamonds Marion Feltham and Sonia Edwards. Alley Cats Sara Neville and Sara Ellis had the only spare in the match up with Meadowbrooks Caitlyn Kneil and Emma Challis and won by 6. The final was a great match, with only 2 ends to go Odd Westons led by 2 but a 2 spare 8th end of 28 from Alley Cats put them into the lead and they hung on to win by 4.

Congratulations to Wendy Northway who backed up being the leading ladies average scorer by taking the singles title. She moved through to the final with a 7 pin win over Sonia Edwards where she met Angela Worth who had defeated Jess Lewis by 6. No spares in her winning 77 but she hit 6 x 9's. Angela finished with a 14 in her 66.

After a strong start from Offcuts with Steve Tippett hitting 16 and 18 Panthers battled hard but couldn't pull back the deficit. Aaron West was Panthers top man with a 2 spare 82 whilst Chris Camp hit 4 in his 91 for Offcuts who are now Dart Plate winners.

In the Castle Plate final Outsiders Karan Vaughan was leading lady scorer of the day with her 3 spare 94. Sarah Life hit the only spare for Fordetts with a 13 in the final end as Outsiders took the title.

Fordetts got into the winners enclosure taking an 8 pin win over Odd Westons in the KO Cup final. Spares from Jane Hingston and Linzi Cackett put them in control, Odd Westons fought hard but an unlucky 9 spare from Ruth Binmore sealed their fate as they lost by 8.

Finally Alley Cats took on Gems in the Castle Cup final. Georgie Northway took centre stage with her 3 spare 82. Alley Cats struggled to get on terms and Gems finished as 29 pin winners.

Thanks to all who supplied draw prizes and helped out on the day, much appreciated. The ladies will be playing in the Devon County Championships on May 24th in Torquay - good luck!

With finals day on Saturday 26th the match up for the last 2 team competitions was decided. Fords captain Paul Trant celebrated his birthday with a top scoring 3 spare 95 and a win over Millers where they will meet Wizzards who were on fire against Wrecks. Fred Farleigh put up some resistance with a 4 spare 96 but after the 3rd end when Wizzards hit a 4 spare 70 it was an uphill battle. Keith Worth finished with 17 in his 97, backed up by son Chris with 93.

Closest game of the week was Alley Cats 3 pin win over Meadowbrooks. Alley Cats edged ahead in the 3rd end thanks to a 14 from Sara Neville, they managed to keep their noses in front. A 16 from Caitlin Kneil in the 8th end gave Meadowbrooks some hope but a 14 from Sara Ellis maintained a 3 pin lead into the final end which was enough. In a game with only 4 spares an 8th end 17 from Gems anchorwoman Diana Davis was crucial in their 10 pin win over All Stars. All Stars were 3 up with 3 to go but couldn't hang on.

Fordetts good cup form continued as they moved through against Diamonds. Diamonds led after 3 but they couldn't match Fordetts strong finish which included 2 x 17 spares from Jane Hingston. Outsiders started with a 40 end including a 17 from Karan Vaughan, Odd Westons were never able to get back on terms despite a 15 followed by a 16 from Angela Worth in the 2nd and 3rd ends. Outsiders also finished with a 40 - but Karan could only manage 16 this time!

The Totnes Men's team travelled to Bideford for the Men's Devon County championships on the 12th . Sadly, it was an unsuccessful trip, when they went out by 6 in the 1st round to Exeter Railway Club. Singles champion, Steve Robinson did better, after a bye in the 1st round he put out the reigning champion in the quarter finals but lost in the semis to the player from Holsworthy.

Finals day will start at 2.00pm on Saturday April 26th with the KO cup finals, everyone welcome.

Congratulations go to Steve Robinson of the Millers who became Totnes Men's Singles champion after defeating Wizzard Mark Northway. A strong start with a 16 in his semi final against Paul Trant (Fords) backed up with another 16 in the 6th end took him into the final. Mark's 3rd end 18 against Les Harding (Offcuts) nudged him ahead in his semi. A 14 in the next end and a 12 in the 8th put him in control although a 17 from Les put him just 3 down with an end to go. Mark finished with a 9 and an unlucky 4 from his opponent put Mark into the final by 8. After a cagey start to the final, a 17 flopper from Steve put him ahead in the 3rd end. With Mark struggling to pick up a spare to close the gap Steve hit a 13 taking him into a winning lead with 2 ends to go. Steve will represent Totnes in the singles Devon County competition which takes place in Bideford on 12th April.

The ladies singles is now at the semi finals stage. Semis and finals will be played on finals day.

Ladies KO cup - semi finals - by the half way mark Gems pulled back the deficit caused by Wendy Northway's 'sunshine' (0) in the 3rd end against Odd Westons. A 43 pin 7th end put Odd Westons in front but it was all square going into the final end. That was how it finished so an extra end was needed, Odd Westons hit a steady 33 which was enough to take a 4 pin win. Fordetts hit one of their season's best scores against Meadowbrooks, captain Emily Stolworthy's 94 included an 18, their 309 total gave them a 42 pin win.

Men's KO cup semi finals - Fords father and son duo Paul and Ben Trant with 91 each led Fords into the KO cup final against Offcuts. Fords consecutive ends of 57, 68 and 70 put the game beyond Offcuts reach.

Andrew Brown rolled 4 spares in his 107 as Woodpeckers saw off Wizzards. Wizzards were in contention going into the last leg but a poor end of 43 and a 17 from Woodpeckers Kevin Jarvis in a leg score of 52 gave 'Peckers an 8 pin win.

The Fords qualify top of their Dart Cup group with 2 wins this week. 7 spares in the 12 throws of the final 2 ends finished off Panthers - although Panthers Aaron West hit 104 which included a 3 ball 21. A slow start cost Woodpeckers when they opened with a leg of 46 against Wizzards 64, certainly a game of 2 halves with Wizzards winning the first 4 ends (and 1 drawn)and 'Peckers winning the last 4 but coming up 19 pins short. Gems clinched the title with a win over All Stars. Wendy Northway should have got her 'ton', she hit 5 spares but a 10 then an 11 on the last throw left her just 4 pins short on 96. Meadowbrooks 3rd end of 51 was the deciding factor in the 7 pin win over Odd Westons, despite the loss Odd Westons stay in 2nd place, 1 clear of Outsiders and 2 ahead of Diamonds so final placings will come down to the last round of matches.
